Code of Conduct #

Our Commitment #

OASIS Open is committed to fostering an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and productive community. Staff are expected to model this commitment in all interactions — with members, contributors, external partners, and one another. Participation in OASIS activities should be harassment-free for everyone, regardless of personal characteristics, background, or technical disagreements.

Expected Behavior #

Staff are expected to:

  • Treat all participants with respect, regardless of differing opinions, experiences, or perspectives
  • Accept group consensus gracefully after voicing concerns through appropriate channels
  • Give and receive constructive feedback professionally
  • Demonstrate empathy and kindness in all interactions
  • Take responsibility for mistakes, apologize, and learn from them
  • Prioritize the health and welfare of the community alongside individual interests

Unacceptable Behavior #

The following behaviors are not acceptable in any OASIS context:

  • Personal attacks that focus on the speaker rather than the substance of their position
  • Blocking or suppressing opposing viewpoints beyond reasonable process limits
  • Sexualized language, imagery, or unwanted advances of any kind
  • Trolling, insulting, or making derogatory comments about individuals or groups
  • Harassment in any form, public or private
  • Sharing private information about any person without their explicit permission
  • Conduct that would be considered unprofessional in a professional setting
  • Disparaging OASIS Open, its activities, employees, or products
  • Promoting exclusive commercial solutions or single vendor products (which is contrary to OASIS’s interoperability mission and antitrust obligations)

Staff Responsibilities #

As staff, you are responsible not only for your own conduct but for helping maintain a respectful environment. Committee chairs and staff facilitating meetings are responsible for managing speaking order and the flow of discussion. For significant behavioral issues, staff should contact code-of-conduct@oasis-open.org. Staff may remove non-compliant content from OASIS platforms and take corrective action proportional to the violation.

Reporting #

Violations of the Code of Conduct should be reported to code-of-conduct@oasis-open.org. All reports receive prompt, fair, and confidential review. All parties involved must maintain confidentiality regarding reporters and the individuals reported.

Enforcement #

Responses to violations are scaled to their severity:

  1. Correction — Private written warning clarifying the nature of the violation, with a possible request for public apology
  2. Warning — Formal warning with consequences for continued behavior; restrictions on interaction via OASIS platforms for a specified period
  3. Temporary Ban — Suspension from community interaction for up to one month
  4. Permanent Ban — Permanent exclusion from the community and removal from repositories and communication tools

Appeals #

Appeals must be submitted to the board comment list (oasis-board-comment@lists.oasis-open.org) within 30 days of a decision. The Board holds hearings within 45 days and renders decisions within 30 days thereafter. Board decisions are final.
