Media Relations Guidelines #
Source: OASIS Open Media Relations Guidelines.
Overview #
All media and press inquiries directed to OASIS must be coordinated through staff. Members approached by media should refer inquiries to communications@oasis-open.org. Staff should not make statements to media on OASIS’s behalf without authorization from the (Interim) ED.
Press Releases Issued by OASIS #
OASIS issues press releases at management’s discretion to promote major accomplishments and activities. Press releases are typically issued for:
- New Technical Committees and Open Projects (generally when at least three Sponsor members are participating)
- Approval of OASIS Standards
- Official OASIS events and interoperability demonstrations
Only Premier and General Sponsor members receive recognition in press releases. All committee members are credited on OASIS websites and in official documents.
Official Spokespersons #
Elected chairs of Technical Committees and Open Project Governing Boards serve as primary press spokespersons for their respective work. OASIS staff coordinate all press and analyst briefings. Staff facilitating TC or OP work should ensure chairs are briefed before any press engagement and that all inquiries are routed through communications@oasis-open.org.
What Members and Organizations May and May Not Do #
Members may promote OASIS work through their own media communications, provided the work has been officially announced and they:
- Clarify that their comments reflect personal or organizational views, not OASIS positions
- Discuss only officially announced work
- Reference the correct, complete names of groups and standards
Third-party press releases that mention OASIS must be submitted to communications@oasis-open.org at least three business days before distribution for fact-checking.
Organizations may not make public announcements on OASIS’s behalf. OASIS does not endorse specific products or services as a vendor-neutral organization.
Joint Press Releases #
OASIS issues joint press releases with non-commercial organizations only.
Quotes from OASIS #
Organizations seeking an OASIS quote for a press release should contact communications@oasis-open.org. OASIS welcomes quote requests but cannot endorse specific products or services.
Presentations at Events #
Members and staff may present on officially announced OASIS work at conferences and events. Staff presenting on behalf of a TC or OP must:
- Be a member of the relevant group
- Obtain chair approval before the presentation
- Notify events@oasis-open.org so the event can be listed on the OASIS Event Calendar
Feedback #
Suggestions for improving these guidelines are welcome at communications@oasis-open.org.
