Contractor or Part-Time

Contractor or Part-Time #

Applies to contractor engagements and part-time positions.

The distinction between employee and contractor carries legal and tax implications. OASIS must ensure that each engagement is correctly classified under applicable law before work begins. For non-US contractors, Remote.com handles payroll and payment; enrollment must be confirmed as part of the offer process. The scope of work or hours should be documented in writing to avoid ambiguity about what is expected and how the engagement will be measured.

Conflict of Interest #

As a 501(c)(6), OASIS is obligated to ensure that its contracting decisions are made in the organization’s interest and are free from — and free from the appearance of — personal or financial conflicts. This obligation applies with particular force when a contractor has been recommended by a board member, officer, or senior staff member who may have a prior or ongoing relationship with the contractor.

Before any contractor engagement is finalized, a conflict of interest disclosure must be obtained from the contractor and from any board member, officer, or senior staff member who recommended or advocated for the engagement. Disclosure is required even where no actual conflict exists; the purpose is to create a record that demonstrates the decision was made with full information and appropriate care.

Where a disclosure reveals a potential conflict, the (Interim) ED must review the disclosure before the engagement proceeds and document the basis for proceeding or not proceeding. Where the conflict involves the (Interim) ED, the matter is referred to the Board Chair.

Completed disclosures are retained by HR as part of the contractor engagement record.
